WINE CELLAR
SOMMELIER'S MESSAGE
|
I hope you all enjoyed the official kick-off to summer with a Memorial Day picnic and some barbeque. As the temperature rises, our chefs are heating things up in the kitchen with grilled meats and plenty of robust flavors. While the menu takes a seasonal turn towards summer, a few of our wine selections are really standing out in the cellar. The smell of charcoal and smoke from the grill take me straight to Rhone varietals with their lovely perfume and savory notes, full fruits and expressive earth. If you prefer the balance of blends try one of our many Châteauneuf-du-Pape selections such as “Quet” by Mas de Boislauzon. This wine offers a unique blend of Grenache and Mourvedre from vines 80 years old or more that lend richness and deep concentration to the fruit. To experience the distinct personality of a single varietal, try out a bold and spicy Syrah. The 2005 Samsara “Verna’s Vineyard” out of Santa Barbara County is at the perfect age to drink. Take advantage of an opportunity to enjoy a boutique wine (only 140 cases produced) that has been pampered by a few years of beauty sleep in our cellar. My final recommendation for the perfect summer wine is – drink what you like! The invitation remains open for you to come relax and cool off in the cellar here at The Hobbit. All the Best, Tiffany M.
